SFERO is organizing the All-California Esperanto conference (TKEK) for the year 2008. It will be held over April 4-6 in the Crowne Plaza Silicon Valley Hotel in Milpitas. To sign up for the Conference fill out this pdf form and mail it back to us. Hope to see you there.
SFERO welcomes you to a celebration of Esperanto at TKEK 2008 (Tut-Kalifornia Esperanto Konferenco). The weekend from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon will be packed with activities and programs designed to maximize your exposure to Esperanto. You will have many opportunities to hear and speak Esperanto during the two-day event. We have structured the program to facilitate and encourage participation by all.
Meet with friends new and old at our mixer. You can expect an evening filled with light refreshments, games, music, conversation and other diversions. This is an opportunity for you to welcome those participants new to Esperanto or to the region, and to introduce them to other Esperantists. (If you have some favorite Esperanto CDs, bring them along to share with the group!)
Saturday is packed with a full day of programs, from 9am to 10 pm. The formal morning and afternoon presentations cover a range of topics, several with technology connections. We will begin with an homage< to Don Harlow, recounting some of his achievements as a life long Esperantist. The afternoon program will end with the Language Forum, an opportunity to pose your most burning grammatical questions! In between we.ll hear a presentation on the Cuban national hero, Jose Marti, one on Esperanto in virtual space (really?), and several others designed to stimulate your thinking and increase your vocabulary.
We will gather for the traditional banquet. Later you can compete for your favorite, must have auction item! If you wish to donate some Esperanto items for auction, please first contact our auctioneer, Bill Harmon. Proceeds will benefit various Esperanto projects.
The presentations continue Sunday morning. We will have an update on the Bay Bridge construction project, and a presentation on various meditation methods for Buddhists. The final presentation will remind us why people choose to travel with Esperanto and discuss various travel possibilities.
In the afternoon, after posing for a group photo, we will have a choice between two excursions. One will be a visit to the Stanford University campus, and we.ll hope for good weather. For the techies in our group, the second will be a trip to the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose. Both of these excursions should prove very interesting; unfortunately, time will permit participation in only one.
Lunch will be on our own in local restaurants on Saturday and Sunday, and provide more opportunities for conversation. Esperanto books will be available for purchase at selected times during the TKEK. See the registration form for details about room reservations at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Milpitas. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Julie Spickler (650-799-7227) or pjspickler@aol.com. We look forward to seeing each of you at the TKEK 2008 in Milpitas. It will be a fun, interesting and personally rewarding event.
There is a conversational circle that meets every Monday in San Francisco between 7:00 and 8:00 P.M. at the café "Three Dollar Bill", 1800 Market Street (between Octavia and Laguna). Here are a map and driving instructions from Yahoo!. Muni F-Market stops at Laguna, the location is midway between the Van Ness and Church Street stations. Finding a place to park is difficult; it's better to use public transport.
A conversational circle meets in Berkeley every Thursday at 6.30 ptm at the café "Original Pollo's," Shattuck Avenue. Here are a map and driving instructions from Yahoo!. The café is very close to the Berkeley station of BART, and can be easily reached via AC Transit.
