Formal Classes

The 1997 Summer Esperanto Workshop at San Francisco State University will be held from June 23 - July 11. This will be the 28th consecutive for this course! For more info, you can contact the ELNA office (510-653-0998) P.O.B. 1129, El Cerrito, CA 94530, or Cathy Schulze, 410 Darrell Road, Hillsborough, CA 94010

There are also many regular classes offered during the year where you can learn the language, or improve your skills in Esperanto.

Stanford University, CA

Conversational Esperanto, led by Ed Williger, at the Bechtel International Center, Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Does not require enrollment at the University if you do not wish class credits. Students of all ages are welcome. You can get information about this class by email, or by postal mail to: P.O.B. 7228, Stanford, CA 94309-7228.

University of California at Berkeley, CA

Basic and Intermediate Esperanto courses, led by elna@esperanto-usa.org", or by postal mail to: P.O. Box 1129, El Cerrito, CA 94530.

If you have a Macintosh computer, you can download HyperCard Stacks, which will help you learn more about the language. The Esperanto KL stack has embedded sound resources, so you can hear the sound of the individual letters. Michael Urban's Esperanto Stack is another useful tool for learning more about the language. Both will work with older versions of HyperCard, as well as newer versions.

For the teen or adult who wants to learn Esperanto, we can recommend the book Esperanto: Learning and using the International Language by David Richardson (ISBN 0-939785-00-5)

There is also a Postal Course available. This is a 10-lesson course. Students will be sent the first lesson. When the student completes the lesson, and returns the test, it will be corrected. When the student successfully completes the first lesson, the second lesson is sent, and so on. When the student has completed the tenth lesson, they will be able to write basic Esperanto sufficient for international correspondence. You can get more information, and the first lesson, by sending a self-addressed business envelope (with first class postage) to:
Postal Course, 410 Darrell Road, Hillsborough, CA 94010
